hooray! here is my first song, and only slightly off the pace.
the story is: I quite like getting lost! as long as I'm not rushing to
be somewhere, or whatever. and it isn't really cold or wet. and I'm not
being attacked by anything.
this song features a classical guitar that I bought from fellow fawmer
'benisbatman', a shaker thing I got for christmas and my new mic /
preamp combo. my voice is lower and growlier than usual, perhaps
because I just ate a polo mint.
When I'm walking around the city or meandering through the park
and the sunshine seems consistent and it's hours til it gets dark
I question my location and I realise with a laugh
that there's nothing there to stop me from stepping off the path
if you're wondering whether it's wandering weather
then you might as well just get lost
if you're ready perhaps we can throw our maps
and concentrate on getting lost
there's a certain satisfaction in not knowing where you are
at least when you're on foot and never end up going far
so join me in a pastime that never gets boring
because getting lost is just another name for exploring
chorus x 2
a topic after my own heart. i don't have the time for it as much as i used to, but intentionally getting lost used to be one of my favorite pastimes. fun take on it.
Awesome :) I really like it. Hooray!
Breezy. And not in a shit way. A premier start Mr Tom
good song. I dig the shaker and the keyboard ending.
Nice job! Fun and catchy (almost enough to make me get over my fear of getting lost :P )
happy. fun. but lyrics still very good. a mood-lightener. nice job.
Very clever Vom! Great use of your new toys.
http://fawm.org/songs/872/ It's a Lost-fest!
love the sound. throw away our maps and concentrate on getting lost. rad. That's some advice I will not hesitate to take.
I do this quite a lot myself, but more with driving than walking. I love to drive out to the middle of nowhere and then find my way back home using only road signs. Nice start, Tom! :)
The Walking Road Map can never, ever get lost, alas. Love the song, though!
Killer beat - this is a great pop song! really good idea for a song too - something i havent done for far too long.
I like the bass, the distorted drums and that synth. Would be cool to take a different rythm to the guitar instead
A great start. I guess having an ear for a good pop hook is liking riding a bike! Perhaps tellingly, I have never owned a bike...
"if you're wondering whether it's wandering weather" that line is so great that it makes me want to scream. i love your internal rhyme. i agree with pifie, that synth is really cool. note to self: polo mints = lower and growlier voice
oh man this is sweet, the little synth parts are amazing and super catchy

I've had an idea on this theme for a while, and the week 1 challenge was all the encouragement I needed!
It's my theory that people who don't like being photographed "because
they look bad in photos" look bad in photos because they don't like
being photographed.
You know I've got a terrible memory
and I can't put a name to a face
so I have to rely on technology
to put all my thoughts into place
so why won't you do me this favour?
Just grant me this one little thing
I want you to pose for the camera
I promise you that it won't sting
LET! ME! TAKE! YOUR! PHOTOGRAPH!
LET! ME! TAKE! YOUR! PHOTOGRAPH!
once you're in the frame, you'll never go away
LET! ME! TAKE! YOUR! PHOTOGRAPH!
despite my pleas, you always seem reluctant
my encouragement just falls on deaf ears
but I don't care! I remain persistent
it's fun to force a friend to face their fears
you complain that you're not photogenic
well I think you should drop the modesty
you'll never look bad in a photograph
especially when you're stood next to me
chorus x 2
good observation about people who don't like their photo taken. Love the ending of the last verse, very sweet. Great feel in this song.
I dig your song. :) That is all.
holy catchyness. Has a great joy electric feel with all the texturing. Very nice!
This is ridiculously catchy, I love the idea aswell, I know I'll be humming this next time someone pulls out a camera.
"it's fun to force a friend to face their fears" What a great line! lol... good stuff as always, Vom.
Whooah way to raise the bar Tom, this is my favourite FAWMsong so far I thought you sang "Well I think you should drop the modest fee" in verse 2. Damned complaining supermodels, I'll never work with their whingeing hides again :D
Excellent! For the sake of full disclosure, did you eat polos before this?
Love the synth-pop stuff! You're inspiring me already. Last line of verse 2 inspired a line of my own: "You'll always look good in my arms." I can feel the song coming on now...
Glad to see you again! This is great. I'm a sucker for electro-pop, so you got me with this one.
awesome and so catchy. i feel like i'm in a teen movie surrounded by cute girls who have no interest in me! i love your vocal phrasing, makes it sounds so personal. it kinda sounds emo, but not in a bad way (in a diary entry sort of way). the whole song was great! i think it's hard to get drums to sound so bare with a busy snare, and have it sound good, but you've achieved that with what feels relative ease! dig it!
I heart your voice :)
Good sounds. A bit Dan Deacon-esque.
pretty sweet. i like the dual vocals in the third line of the chorus. rhyming "modesty" with "next to me" is a really cool touch too i think.

Here is something a bit different!
I went out for a drink with a friend I hadn't seen in a while last
weekend, and he was telling me about the new drum machine he had
recently bought. Obviously I asked him to supply me with some beats
from his new toy... and they led to this odd synth thing, like some
kind of drunk Vangelis. I pinched the title from a Theodore Sturgeon
short story collection.
That's any hope of my FAWM 2009 album being even remotely cohesive out the window then... :)
(instrumental)
i like!
Awesome! It's Justice phat! Tech talk: so what was the toy then?
Well now - that's some darn fine noisemongering you done fixed up there
coooooooooooooooooool! Who wants to be cohesive? it's all about the fat beats
This is great! I really like the 8-bit computer sounds.
Wow; grooving to the synth sounds. The drum pattern pulsates in a cool way, and you're doing the Vangelis thing nicely.
cool cool, now please do a Zelazny tribute!
This is excellent. I'm not sure it would be easy for a drunk man to build this kind of things, even Vangelis ^^
Many people have carved quite a career out for themselves with lesser tunes.

Or possibly "Hope Yr Not X" depending on whether the abbreviations
annoy me or not, I haven't decided. Either way it's a pretty poor pun :)
This tackles religion, hopefully in a way that doesn't offend anyone. It's supposed to be a bit fun / silly.
I wrote part of the first verse prior to FAWM but never did anything
with it until now, I think that's alright! Music yet to be written, so
demo will follow later, hopefully this evening. Lyrics might be revised
at the same time, but I thought I'd post them to make it look like I'm
less behind than I actually am...
Updated 10/02: Music is done now, it's a classic example of "chip-hop",
that is to say chiptune music with rapping over the top... something I
pioneered last year with my song "Savoury Man".
I didn't realise how short the song would work out with the lyrics being busted out at such inhuman speed, but there you go ;)
I know it doesn’t matter and I guess I shouldn’t say
But that girl’s into Jesus in a slightly creepy way
And the posters that adorn every wall of her home
Concentrate far too intensely on his muscle tone
Now she’s asking me to grow my hair and stop trimming my beard
And the whole situation’s getting very very weird
Though I’m going barefoot and catching a chill
I am finding these pretty tough sandals to fill
But when she said “I’m leaving you for the church, I hope you’re not crossâ€
I realised that religion’s gain is definitely my loss
She took me to the cinema to see “the passionâ€
Wearing outfits that were 2000 years out of fashion
There was quite a commotion and stares from the crowd
But she said “turn the other cheek†and I hid behind my shroud
She always forgives my sins and has the patience of a saint
But the pressure to behave myself is making me feel faint
and I cracked when she said we should matching tattoos
Of all the Old Testament and most of the New.
But when she said “I’m leaving you for the church, I hope you’re not crossâ€
I realised that religion’s gain is definitely my loss
Keep this title, the other sounds anti-straight edge...
Yeah, good point! Although that gives me an idea for another song... ;)
Wrong Side of the Non-Alcoholic Bar?
Chip-hop! It's even better with noise than on paper.
Everyone's rapping in 2009 - great songgg
wicked lyrics, very smart in every way. fun tune to go with. "finding these tough sandals to fill" is just brilliant.
this is great.
This is so funny! I love everything about it!
That is acebest. That is what term 'acebest' invented for.
I think ''chip hop'' works well for you--as it did for Massive Attack.

Here's another song that I've had an idea for for AGES but have
never actually got around to writing until now. I live in Derby and
work in Matlock, and this song namechecks most of the places I drive
through in between.
The plan is to have the middle 8 (or whatever) in a different time
signature as per the Week 2 challenge, but I won't tick that box until
I've actually tried this out...
Hopefully I'll get a chance to record demos for this song and the last one tonight, which will bring me back on track...
------
Update 15/02/09:
I got sidetracked. It's finished now, time signature changes, vocoders
and all. This one took longer to record than any of the others and I'm
not ENTIRELY sure it was worth it. That'll teach me to mess with forces
I don't properly understand.
it was the height of british summertime by which I mean it was raining
thusly I was stuck in traffic, but you won't hear me complaining
as the clouds began to thicken and I turned on my headlights
to see lightning bolts flash atop the Heights (of Abraham)
despite extreme conditions and wherever I may roam
monsoon rains in matlock bath won't stop me getting home
though the road is getting icy and the skies are turning black
a cyclone up in cromford will not stop me getting back
with the cars all slowed to walking pace, my wipers on full speed
I can't see the road markings but I know I must proceed
it's so cold outside that my heater fails to keep me warm
but I know that you'll be there if I can make it through the storm
despite extreme conditions and wherever I may roam
a whirlwind in whatstandwell will not stop me getting home
though the road is getting icy and the skies are turning black
thunderstorms in ambergate won't stop me getting back
we are over the weather
it will take more than rain and snow
to stop us being together
and I know in my heart
that frozen, closed and flooded roads
will not keep us apart
despite extreme conditions and wherever I may roam
a blizzard around belper will not stop me getting home
though the road is getting icy and the skies are turning black
a maelstrom up in milford will not stop me getting back
so the rain may be torrential and there's strong winds forecast too
flash floods throughout duffield will not stop me getting through
if the hills are thick with snow and frost and my hands are turning blue
an avalance in allestree won't stop me getting back to you
interesting-- now what will it sound like?
kudos for your use of the word 'thusly' in song.
Elie will be thrilled to hear you namecheck the wonderful city/town/village/hamlet Belper in a tune. Time signature changes may have to be accompanied by a 4-part V-orus singing, Belper, Belper lovely Belper.* *Sorry, too many blue smarties
Time signature changes have resulted in this song destroying my will to live!
The new limited edition 'Builder's Breakfast' flavour Walker's Crisps were suggested by someone from Belper. Also, Derbyshire has many excellent place names like Belper, including Mickleover, and Spondon. Also this song is dead good, duck. Cobs. Derbyshire!
This is excellent! Also those Builder's Breakfast crisps should be renamed Chemical Egg crisps.
aw, blew me away. cool, stormlike pacing-- love the gentle drizzly start and the rising fullness. the textural/time change comes along and grips you, then that irresistible snappy return.
Yes! Well done, loved this tune. The perfect song to motivate me to get to work and face the day... you almost make me wish I had a longer commute. ;-) The time change is very well done, both entry and return to the main theme. I didn't have the stones to try this challenge, but you've done it very well indeed... Seriously, brilliant song.
Tunes as good as this rattling around your brain, and this is the first FAWM you've completed? For shame! It's got an early Magnetic Fields feel to it, of which I definitely approve.
This is spectacular. It reminds me of the love-child of Belle and Sebastian and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone.
Nice song, Vom, the first i have had the chance to hear of yours. Will check out more.
I love the alliteration in the chorus! And the vocoder makes me very happy, especially the way it comes in right with the time change. I am such a fan of this song, I think I have to watchlist you, even though FAWM is over.
Worth the sweat. Top song.
Nice guitar work over top a happy plastic drumbeat!

I had to follow up a song called "over the weather" with one called
"under the moon". It is just common sense. Also I really like the moon,
and hadn't used my ukulele yet.
The Usborne Book of the Future is my favourite book. It used to be
online but then Usborne complained, so I can't link to it any more.
They did predict a moon olympics though, in the moon's capital city,
"Armstrong". In 2020. It could still happen!
on a clear night the moon rises
and its brightness mesmerises
through the trees I see it glowing
can't help wishing I was going
though I know it'll never happen
I've got as much chance of seeing saturn
a vague hope lingers
and I cross my fingers
when you need me
you'll know where to find me
under the moon
staring up
the usborne book of the future promised we'd see a moon olympics
but I'm starting to think their predictions were slightly wrong
so I'll content myself by gazing at the fabulous amazing orb
and writing song after song after song after song after song after song after song after song after song after song
I almost bought a ukulele a few months ago, and I love looking at the moon. I dig the lilt of this song, and the lyrics are clever. Gotta read that book you refer to!
I like the vibe you have going with this tune. Un-intrusive yet intense.
Is that the window you left open? Windy day! This tune made me think. I remember reading this book. I think. Because the gravity was 1/6th of on Earth, the long jump pit would be 40 feet long... And there was bits in it which predicted by the late 1990s we'd have robots controlling all our houses' functions, like doing the washing up and such. My washing up is ...slightly... behind schedule. And predictions of flying cars and underwater bubble cities. Where's our glorious future?! We've been robbed, by inspiring, fabulously illustrated children's books!
Good tune, by the by
Lovely job. Really cool layering thing at the end. Referencing Usborne is a stroke of genius; one publishing house responsible for so many childhood memories... Also, I can identify with this. When you find Mr Vorton, you'll probably find me next to him. Staring. Up.
Good god, Usborne! They lit up my fertile little imagination back in the day. Plus, the qualification "I really like the moon" is a good a reason as any to write a song about it. Lovely.

The idea for the chorus came to me in the toilet at work today, of all places. I hummed the melody into my mobile phone after washing my hands. At that point I imagined it being a slightly odd electronic pop song, but when I listened back it was mostly extractor fan. Imagine my surprise when I recorded it and it ended up sounding like this!
well you can push me over, I'll just stand up again
you can open my skull and make changes to my brain
you can knock me out and replace my defunct parts
but please don't break my synthetic heart
you can change me around to keep up with the latest fads
you can soup me up, you can cover me in ads
you can clear my mind and go back to the start
but please don't break my synthetic heart
(frightening guitar solo)
baby please don't break my synthetic heart
baby please don't break my synthetic heart
It's Dirty and I love it.
It's nasty and I like it
Hooray for huge amounts of distortion!
I didn't know you could play geetar like that. Good work!
I am not frightened by the solo. 'Tis wicked, yo? I made a "Grandaddy-esque" comment earlier. This doesn't sound like 'em, but it does share subject matter with the mental robo-rockers. And I like it. *plays it again* It's the intro that I love best, you know?
Glad I found your stuff this month, really enjoying it. This feels a bit like a souped-up Billy Bragg. Hooray. (Are you running some kind of randomised filter over those claps? Sounds nifty.)

I've planned to use this title for a while. I don't really know why.
I didn't like this song for a lot of the recording process, but I've
warmed to it now that it's done, perhaps entirely due to the backing
vocals.
Probably shouldn't have used the word "power" three times in the second verse, but oh well.
a strange throbbing in my gums
means something magical this way comes
I check the mirror for any sign
it sends a shiver down my spine
to know my dentist agrees
there are endless possibilities
all the things I'll do when I get my wizard teeth (it's magic)
with untold power at my disposal
I'm forced to write a full proposal
when the power materialises
I want to avoid any nasty surprises
and know that it is understood
I'll only use my powers for good
This is really clever Vom. I really like the "it's magic" in the chorus. The chord progression for the verses are cool, and the hook is catchy too.
I like the backing vocals too. The instrumental also fit very well, this song is very well done. I think "it's magic".
Thirded on the "it's magic" BVs. Really a rather splendid hook.
i'll be heading to the dentist soon for my wizard teeth (it's magic). :)
heard this on the jukebox---- cool stuff man!
Yeah, those 'it's magic's are fairly special. Nice spacious instrumental section too.

UPDATED 04/03/09! I've replaced the live casiocore demo with a more complete ukulele-fest.
My girlfriend suggested the title for this one and I LIKED it. I'm not
sure I've done it justice (not nearly enough puns) but now that I've
properly recorded it, I am quite pleased with the end result.
Should you want to hear how this song has developed, the previous demo
is here:
http://www.vomvorton.co.uk/tapes/VomVorton_09_FiguresCrossedDemo.mp3
Lyrically this is basically a combination / rip-off of two of MJ
Hibbett's songs - Perfect Love Song and It Only Works Because You're
Here. Don't think it's TOO blatant though :)
their eyes met across the office and he felt a certain spark
that shot into his keyboard and turned the office dark
he dreamed that when the lights came on she'd be holding his hand
their fingers held together by a thick rubber band
"can you help me with my spreadsheet?", he would hear her say
and he'd suggest a formula that would make her day
he'd say "I'll see you calcu-later" when the clock hit five o'clock
though they both lived on the same block
though they spent so much time together every day
they never got their figures crossed, I'm sorry to say
it was a small office, they were often left alone
they had a receptionist manning the phone
the stationery cupboard could have been a perfect nest
if they'd dropped their calculations and declared their mutual interest
he offered her a lift to work but she was sick that day
she asked him to a party but he couldn't find the way
and when she got promoted to head recruiter
he got made redundant, replaced by a computer
I'm hearing a cross between Flight of the Conchords, Fountains of Wayne and Squeeze [sort of a "Cool For Cats" about it]. Dandy job!
Hurrah - It's the unofficial 70th song off of 69 Love Songs. Some of your best punmanship here Vhomas
I love those last couple of sentences - aah, the bittersweet punchline to it all.
I was getting a bit of 'Cool for Cats' too. Great lyrics.

The chord is some kind of open string B minor thing. I recorded
myself playing it once on an acoustic guitar, and created the rest of
the song, apart from the vocals, from that. The drums are made from the
chord. The melodies are made from the chord, vocoded.
The chord is miserable and so is the song :(
this is desperation and nothing more
this is love in the reactor core
we fall together as we fall apart
we were doomed right from the start
I love those vocals. I think this works well - the song works because of the single chord, rather than in spite of it. Nice ending.
Amazing!! This is like something Peel would play (like Cowcube or something), and I mean that in the best possible sense. I love it
Yes, I am loving this. Like a British, hardcore, Grandaddy. It might just be me, but this *sounds like* late nights. Wow. There's some amazing laserbeam sounds around 2:00. All from one chord?! I'm very, very impressed.
Whoa...I'm playing this again... Nice work, man...sounds like something from the 'Trainspotting' soundtrack, which I love. You definitely got a lot out 1 chord and 4 lyric lines!
Change "we were doomed right from the start" to "we are doomed right from the start" and it sounds a little more immediate. This is really cool, by the way.
You have a great way with sounds. This one's a bit like where Trent Reznor might go if he understood the concept of understatement.

Elaine DiMasi inspired this one with the following comment on my soundboard page:
"Write a song about a topiary garden that goes around from creature (I mean, shrubbery) to creature and gets pretty weird."
I'm not sure this is entirely what you meant, Elaine, but it was a LOT of fun :)
something strange is stirring at the arboretum
they called out a botanist - but she just got eaten
the gardeners have started refusing to go out alone
some of them have disappeared and can't be reached on the phone
it all started after the exhibition
a topiary show, one pound fifty admission
a local expert with a sparkle in his eye
carved and snipped and crafted, everyone was amazed, he was a talented guy
but now there's blood on the leaves
and blood on the branches
and blood on the little gravel path
and the janitor's shaking
and muttering while he's raking
through the aftermath
the owner's losing money and his payments are long overdue
people come in in the morning seeking something for the garden but the garden wants something too
there are whispers in the café that strange things have been seen in the rare plants section
but none of the staff volunteer to give it a closer inspection....
because there's blood on the leaves
and blood on the branches
and blood on the little gravel path
and the janitor's shaking
and muttering while he's raking
through the aftermath
and so the staff are getting crazy and they all get together and head down the track
to find the topiary expert and his trimmers and scissors somewhere out in the back
carving weird and wonderful creatures out of every single plant in the area
the hyacinth lady can't help but scream and they all turn... and stare at her!
and now there's BLOOD on the leaves!
and BLOOD on the branches!
and BLOOD on the snowdrops and the rosehips!
and the janitor's gone
and an evergreen lion
is licking its lips
There's a coffee shop in my home town called Avant Garden :) Delightfully chilling and mysterious lyrics, kind of reminiscent of David Bowie's Please Mr. Gravedigger, if you're familiar with that one. Fun!
Yeah, yeah, yeah! This is like NIN meets the Hardy Plant Society. I so dig the way the story keeps wrapping back to the janitor at the end of the choruses. And the way you sing "little gravel path" makes me pitch over laughing. MUCH cooler scene than whatever I may have had in mind. Way cool. And too funny.
what coolest lyrics here. twisted funny storyteling. like the heavy menace of the tune's beginning. the last stanza kills me. the garden wants something too... love that. Blood! Blood! Blood! bloody great.
That's a wonderful change of pace - it makes me think it could be an off-kilter episode of Doctor Who where the plants have a taste for something more than water...Genuinely ace.
Heh. Love the little bitcrushed 'handclap' squelches.
wow, great and darkly funny story there, great production on it all, too! great vocal delivery too!

apologies for any mispronunciations.
he appeared at the door looking sad and thin
when we saw his face we had to let him in
he was so hungry, he ate a hula-hoop and then he sneezed
he wouldn't turn his nose up at cheese
eine kleine schwarze katze
un petit chat noir
un pequeño gato negro
with little white paws
eine kleine schwarze katze
un petit chat noir
uno dos tres quattro
and he knocked on our door
so he went to sleep a stray, but woke up a pet
we groomed him and we fed him and we took him to the vet
he could open any door - that cat was no sucker
he had a white bib, so we called him tucker!
(chorus)
so we grew up together, years passed like the scratches on my hands
through my awkward teenage years he was the friend who always understands
though I had to move away when I went to university
every time I returned home I knew that he remembered me
every cat has his day, and tucker wasn't getting any younger
he started to get thin, and showed no signs of hunger
sadly tucker passed away, but right up to the end
he was the best cat in the world, and my best friend
(chorus)
eine kleine schwarze katze
en liten svart katt
un piccolo gatto nero
een weinig zwarte kat
um gato preto pequeno
hychydig ddua cath
a lÃtill svartur köttur
a little black cat.
*purrrrrrrrrr*
The second verse reminds me of my cat, as he used to sleep in my room while I was away at university, and recognised me the moment I walked through the door. Found at the bottom of a bag next to a canal before we adopted him, he sadly had to be put down last year, and this song brings a little tear to my eye. Best mates, we were. Thanks for the tune :)
this is a sad but sweet song, i like it a lot. by the way, so far this is the only non-Mojo song tagged as catcore! i confess i have one too, but haven't uploaded it yet...
As Mojo and I are the best friends in the world I am totally hooked by the lyrics. It's lovely and poignant. Your voice is awesome as usual. Mojo and I are fans of your music. And btw, Mojo thanks you for the kind message on his board and doesn't mind at all for the "catcore" tag ; he's, on the contrary, honoured...
Oh my GOD, you WIN with this song! As I am both a musician and a linguaphile, this song makes me happy in multiple ways. :)
What a lovely cat tribute! Verna and I enjoyed this lots. :-)

tags: synth-rap ode to data storage
I had the idea for this song a while ago, while looking at a tiny
micro-SD card that somehow can hold 8 gigabytes of data. I had a minor
breakdown and was never quite the same.
Other things that have absurd capacity include minidiscs, video cassettes, USB memory sticks and The Tardis.
when I was young I would sit on my floor
loading games from tapes on my C64
and wondering how they fit the data inside
things only got worse when I got a disk drive
eventually my family got a PC
with 500 megabytes of hard drive memory
and 8 meg of ram in the case
I had no idea how to fill all that space
audio cassettes have absurd capacity
floppy disks have absurd capacity
hard drives have absurd capacity
random access memory has absurd capacity
well, that didn't last long, it became clear to me
that you can fit 700 megabytes on a single CD
and as I was trying to understand that
DVDs became commonplace and knocked me flat
I can put six movies on a disk to take to a friend's home
or put my mp3 collection on my mobile phone
but the thing that really surprises me
is that I can remember the size of the hard drive in my first PC
compact disks have absurd capacity
DVDs have absurd capacity
memory cards have absurd capacity
mp3 players have absurd capacity
the human brain has absurd capacity
the human brain has absurd capacity
the human brain has absurd capacity
the human brain has absurd capacity
This is great, though it makes me feel a bit old! I can remember an article about home computers, back in the early 80s probably, that confidently stated that 64k of memory was more than enough for any home applications. Yeah, right. Unfortunately, my human brain's capacity appears to be shrinking.
Vom, this is great. I love your diction most of all. Ah, the human brain, all bow down to the brain.
My capacity to love this song is absurd. Thanks for Charlie for spinning in on his Feb 28 show, or I might have missed it! Phenomenal!
Definitely enjoyed this tune. While I sense that this song has something of a cheeky bent, it also confures the existential anxiety of limitless possibility. Did I mention the synth line whoops ass?
Really enjoyed this. Caught an old show of Charlie's on the jukebox and had to check out what this song was. Great stuff.
Top stuff. Love your delivery on this. (And we had the old C64 with tape deck too. 64K! Take that, Vic 20.) My local music shop now has memory sticks by the counter as an impulse buy - small as a thumb, but each can hold the entire written works of the human race. Or else the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic 'Kindergarten Cop'. Boggles the mind.

A nice relaxing finish to the album :)
A companion piece to 'The Joyous Invasions' from earlier in the month - more dreamy synths and another Theodore Sturgeon title.
Hooray for another excellent FAWM! I had a great time.
Very sweet and dreamy - I'm a sucker for the synth that opens the piece. It's more than likely I'll be ransacking the rest of your album as well...
This is nice and yeah, relaxing. I really love your stuff. I hope we'll have an opportunity to collab some day :)
I had forgotten about Theodore! Good closer, and THANKS for introducing me to FAWM. I've had - and continue to have - a great time too!
Vom, I love your album art profile pic. :-) Looking forward to hearing your stuff again. Yay.
That visual rocks. Can't wait to hear the new audio, let's go!
Hey! Good to hear from you. I have to admit, I don't have high expectations for myself this year-- I've been in a slump, both creatively and just in general, and I've also been having difficulty locating some stuff I need in order to record. I honestly don't know if I'll even get off the ground this time around, but time will tell. Looking forward to hearing what you come up with. :)
Good luck Tom - I haven't written anything since The Scarlet Tuesday split up...
Good luck from me!
Thanks Tom, Yeah, I'm a sucker for delay as I'm sure you'll see with more of my songs. I really need to not overdo it : ) We'll see where these songs go.
Hey, thanks for the kind comment :) I remember I liked your songs a lot last year, I can't wait for the new ones ;)
Monsieur! This place is like the Cheers bar! Oh yes I have my eye on your prolific Play button
Thanks for the offer to play guitar on my track, Vom... I'd definitely take you up on it, but I'd be no good at collaborating long distance. I need to be in a room with somebody, you know? I'm not musically proficient enough to be able to say, "OK, it's this chord, then that chord...". I wish I was, but I'm not. Thanks again, though. :)
Yes I was aiming for Ice Hockey Hair ish. Thanks for being nice. At least I'm not on a duck any more
Oh and polos make me sneeze for some reason. I do like them though, so it's kind of phlegmy Russian Roulette
Holy shit. That's the sexxx. It's got wooden panels. WOODEN PANELS
thanks! what drum machine did your friend have?
Elie said it was Lardpony-like. Which is of course a great compliment.
well, if you're interested, Zelazny's great work is the series Nine Princes in Amber-- but his short stories kick bum. Many of them have gotten made into horrible movies. Damnation Alley is one. very good story.
Hmm. Over the weather but under the moon... Would that be in the stratosphere then?
What, really?! I love stuff that messes about with time-travel. I mean, it's no Back to the Future, granted...
>It sounded a bit... bleak with just vocals and ukulele. Somehow I thought this would help. Actually it makes it sound like a totally spontaneous recording, which is probably a good thing. Oh yeah I would LOVE to reread the Book of the Future. :D
Thanks! A concept album eh? That sounds like a lot of concentrated thinking. I'll leave that to you. By the way, that's got to be the new fastest comment I've ever got, about 4 minutes from me uploading to you commenting. Now just to finish the song...
Hey Vom! was that a long time ago? It was Lardpony wasn't it? I wish he still sung in his own band : ( Happy Fawming!
Yeah, I read that, and thank heavens. It's more than we ever got from the Little Explorer, though I'm still pestering them for those recordings.
Thanks for the compliment on my newest song. I rarely like any lyrics/poems I try to write, so I wanted to at least use those, since I didn't mind them that much.
Thanks for the comments on my song. You are doing some nice stuff here!
Write a song about a topiary garden that goes around from creature (I mean, shrubbery) to creature and gets pretty weird.
mmrrrgwrr amrraeow mrrreew eew eew!!!
Ach! I'm a fool. I see the URL for FAWM 2008 now...will check it out!
Thank you :) I'm a fan of your stuff and I'm in love with your voice so I'd be very glad to collaborate with you. I'm not sure I'll do the 50/90 this year because last time I ended with songs with over 40 tracks of layered voices and guitars and of course I was totally exhausted ^^ Let's keep in touch :) 50/90, FAWM, any other moment, all will fit.
yeah, i learned about this all a little too late. but i joined because i have some friends on here who are really amazing. checkout easter_island and jelehfish. stunning. hefner does rock though! i'm glad you're a fan. i will host some songs on my site and post a link eventually...i'll put you on my watchlist and check you out at work on monday.
Congrats on making 14! I'm planning to stop in and check out the rest of your songs, I know I commented on one already (your time signature challenge song) but I've been meaning to swing back around to hear what else you've accomplished. Great FAWMing with you!
Vom, I thiefed your album from last year - mighty fine too. 'The Animal News' is annoyingly catchy. In a good way.
Thanks - it was a painting I did for a friend's EP, but then he panicked and junked the whole thing. Git! It had to pop up again somewhere. Good for you for getting on the gigging wagon - I've been so long out of it, the mere thought gives me the shivers. Anyway, hope you enjoy the other couple of years-worth of stuff - pretty eclectic, truth be told. If I see you here next year, maybe some sort of collab could be in the offing, even it's just to celebrate the inevitable collapse of Colas Rail...
